Major Richard Sharpe (Sean Bean) wants to get a ceremonial company ready for its first real fight in the Pyrenees in September 1813. The Royal Irish Company, led by Lord Kiely, has only ever marched in parades, and Sharpe is a hard taskmaster. Tom Clegg follows the drilling, the rumors of a massacre in Ireland, and Lady Kiely's quiet turn toward Sharpe for comfort.
