Shirley Valentine

(1989)Directed by Lewis Gilbert108 min · RRomance, Comedy
“No one thought she had the courage, the nerve, or the lingerie.”

Shirley Valentine-Bradshaw (Pauline Collins) stands at the cooker in her Liverpool kitchen frying chips and egg for her husband, and talking to the wall as she does it. Then her best friend Jane (Alison Steadman) wins a trip for two to Greece, and Lewis Gilbert follows Shirley as she begins to look at the world differently. She is middle-aged, in a rut, and quietly asking what became of the girl she used to be.
