“The greatest cast ever assembled! The greatest story ever told!”

Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar), a retired police officer, sends for two petty outlaws, Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra), to take down the bandit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan), who has slaughtered his family. Ramesh Sippy builds the hunt around Jai and Veeru's easy banter and their bond, with Basanti (Hema Malini) and a score by R. D. Burman filling the gaps between fights. Under the revenge plot, the film is about what two men will risk for each other.
