“There's one thing about marriage that hasn't changed... The way you hurt when it begins to fall apart.”

George Dunlap (Albert Finney) is a writer in Marin County who, after fifteen years of marriage, is moving out on his wife Faith (Diane Keaton). Each of them takes up with someone new, Sandy (Karen Allen) for him and Frank Henderson (Peter Weller) for her. Alan Parker keeps their four daughters in the house through all of it, among them Sherry (Dana Hill), who is watching her parents come apart.
