Shoplifters

“Sometimes you choose your family.”

Osamu Shibata (Lily Franky) wants to keep his small household fed, and in the outskirts of Tokyo that means odd jobs and a routine of shoplifting he has taught his son. One night he and Shota (Kairi Jo) bring home Yuri (Miyu Sasaki), a neglected young girl, and the family makes room for her. Hirokazu Kore-eda leaves the Shibatas together in their cramped home, the adults and children close around one table.
