“Two families. One feud. No going back.”

Son Hayes (Michael Shannon) and his brothers Boy and Kid, named by a mother who gave up on them early, want only to be left alone with their own small lives in Southeast Arkansas. When their father dies, they learn he raised a second family across town, and the funeral turns into a feud with the four half brothers. Jeff Nichols plays the grievance out in cotton fields and on back roads, and what holds the two sides together is that they share a father.
