Colonel Flynn O'Flynn (Lee Marvin) is an American elephant poacher working the coast of Zanzibar and German East Africa, loud, unwashed and fond of his daughter Rosa (Barbara Parkins). Sebastian Oldsmith (Roger Moore), an English adventurer, ends up in his company, and the war pulls all three toward a German battle-cruiser sheltering in an inlet. Peter R. Hunt directs, and O'Flynn goes after it the way he goes after ivory, with more nerve than sense.
