In 1954, a ferry carries two U.S. Marshals across Boston Harbor to Shutter Island, home to a hospital for the criminally insane. Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio), a war veteran, has come to find a patient who vanished from a locked room, and Martin Scorsese keeps him moving through the wards under Dr. Cawley's (Ben Kingsley) watch. His partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) stays beside him, the one person on the island Teddy relies on.
