Sidewalk Stories
The Artist (Charles Lane) draws portraits for tourists on a New York City sidewalk, scraping together enough to get by. When a baby girl is left without a father, he takes her in and sets out to find her mother, though first he has to work out how to look after a child at all. Lane shot it in black and white with almost no spoken dialogue, and the film argues that tenderness costs little and gets handed out by people with the least to spare.
