Silence
“Sometimes silence is the deadliest sound.”
Two Jesuit priests, Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Garupe (Adam Driver), sail from Portugal to 17th-century Japan to find their missing mentor, Ferreira (Liam Neeson). They arrive to discover that the faith they came to protect is being hunted by the state. Scorsese strips the film to interrogation and silence, asking whether faith survives the moment it is made to choose itself or those who hold it.
