Silent Light

Johan (Cornelio Wall) is a married Mennonite farmer in northern Mexico, a father who has fallen in love with another woman, Marianne (Maria Pankratz). Carlos Reygadas shot the film in a Mennonite colony near Cuauhtémoc, in Chihuahua, with the cast speaking Plautdietsch, the Low German of the community. The film treats Johan's love as a question of what he owes his wife Esther (Miriam Toews), his church, and his own conscience.
