A wedding in the town of Silver Lode stops short when four armed men walk in and accuse the groom of killing a man and taking $20,000. Dan Ballard (John Payne) has been a respected citizen there, and the marshal naming him, Ned McCarty, is someone he has known for years. Allan Dwan has Ballard stall the lawman and go looking for proof, his neighbors watching him and the hours running short.
