“Boy meets girl. Girl unimpressed. Boy starts band.”

Conor "Cosmo" Lalor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) is a Dublin teenager in the 1980s, stuck in a house where his parents' marriage is coming apart. He starts a band to get the attention of Raphina (Lucy Boynton), the girl who hangs around outside his new school. John Carney fills the film with Conor and his bandmates, Darren (Ben Carolan) and Eamon (Mark McKenna), with eighties Dublin and its music packed into every cramped room.
