Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) is a silent-film star in 1927 Hollywood, famous on the screen beside his partner Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen) and quietly drawn to a chorus girl, Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds). Then sound arrives, and the studio scrambles to turn its stars into talking pictures. Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen make a musical about people who sing and dance because the feeling is too big to say.
