“Beyond Casablanca... Fate, in a Low-cut Gown, Lies in Wait for Bogart!”

Harry Smith (Humphrey Bogart) is an American in Syria who sells guns to the rebels fighting French rule. His trade puts him in the orbit of Col. Feroud (Lee J. Cobb), a French intelligence officer with a reach well past the barracks, and Violette (Märta Torén), who has her own reasons for keeping close to Harry. Curtis Bernhardt shoots the city in a bleached, dusty light, and the nightclubs and back rooms carry the menace.
