Sissi: The Fateful Years of an Empress

The year is 1957, and in the film Empress Elisabeth (Romy Schneider) comes home from a happy stay in Hungary and falls gravely ill. Her mother, Duchess Ludovika (Magda Schneider), takes her from Austria to Madeira, hoping a Mediterranean climate will bring her strength back. Ernst Marischka keeps Emperor Franz Joseph (Karlheinz Böhm) waiting at the other end of the journey, and the longer she stays away, the more it puts at risk.
