A lounge singer named Deloris Van Cartier (Whoopi Goldberg) lands in a Catholic convent as part of a witness protection scheme, swapping her sequined stage life for a habit. Mother Superior (Maggie Smith) and her quiet sisters have no idea who she really is. Ardolino sets the film in bright primary colors and lets the energy build from Goldberg's first collision with the church choir, turning the convent into a place where joy and mischief live.
