“Vengeance is golden.”

In the last stretch of the Lapland War, with Germany pulling out and burning the land behind it, a former Finnish commando named Aatami (Jorma Tommila) prospects alone in the wilderness and strikes gold. He loads it up to carry to the city, and a Waffen-SS platoon led by Bruno (Aksel Hennie) moves in to take it. Helander keeps Aatami almost silent, a weathered man and his pickaxe, the gold stacked in bars on his horse.
