“it's his year, and he wants it back.”

Bernie Rubens (Gregg Sulkin) has a Bar Mitzvah coming in London in 1966, and the date turns out to be the day of the World Cup Final. His father Manny (Eddie Marsan) frets over the guest list and the clash, while his mother Esther (Helena Bonham Carter) tries to keep the family calm. Paul Weiland draws on his own Bar Mitzvah, and the film stays on Bernie and Manny, a boy and his father who rarely talk about what they feel.
