“There's nothing like knowing what you've been missing.”

Sam Callahan (Bug Hall) and his mother Lydia (Jennifer Jason Leigh) are pushed out of their small South Carolina town after her wild behavior becomes more than the neighbors will tolerate. Tamra Davis follows the pair into a new place, where Sam, a boy on the edge of adolescence, meets Maurey Pierce (Mischa Barton). Their friendship is the one steady thing, a closeness between two kids that Sam has no one else to compare it to.
