“Words make sense of a world that won't.”

A police sweep over a small marijuana charge puts Ray Joshua (Saul Williams), a young performance poet, in a Washington, D.C. jail. Inside, he crosses paths with a gang leader and with Lauren Bell (Sonja Sohn), a writing teacher who tells him his words are worth more than the street has made of them. Marc Levin's film follows Ray as he finds out what his voice is for, and what it costs to use it.
