Joan Huang (Shirley Chen), a Chinese-American teenager, wants to belong at her new school so badly that she books an experimental ethnic modification surgery. She wakes up as Jo Hunt (Mckenna Grace), her face remade, her reflection a stranger. Wang tracks what Joan loses as she tries to inhabit this new skin, each small betrayal cutting deeper than the last.
