Sleep, My Love

(1948)Directed by Douglas Sirk97 minThriller, Mystery, Drama
“...the most terrifying words a man ever whispered to a woman!”

Alison Courtland (Claudette Colbert) wakes in the night on a moving train with no memory of boarding it, and it is not the first time she has lost hours this way. Back home, her husband Richard (Don Ameche) says she is ill, while a stranger named Bruce Elcott (Robert Cummings) takes an interest in her case. Douglas Sirk keeps the camera close on Colbert's face, so her fear reaches us before anyone explains it.
