“What if one split second sent your life in two completely different directions?”

Helen Quilley (Gwyneth Paltrow) loses her advertising job in London and hurries down to the Underground, where the closing doors of one train decide the rest of her life. Peter Howitt follows both versions, one in which she makes it and one in which she misses it, each with its own set of men, friends and lies. James (John Hannah) and Gerry (John Lynch) stand on either side of the choice, and what separates them is a single second.
