Serge Fabergé (Serge Gainsbourg) makes television commercials, and he is sleeping with Evelyne (Jane Birkin), the eighteen-year-old fiancée of his friend Hugh. His pregnant wife Françoise (Andréa Parisy) has put up with his affairs before, but this time he walks out on her and their newborn to move in with the girl. Pierre Grimblat follows the couple to Venice, where a stuntman catches Evelyne's eye, and Serge learns how little he can hold onto.
