“What does it take to find a lost love?”

Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), an eighteen-year-old from the Mumbai slums, sits on a game show answering questions that map onto moments from his own life. Each correct answer unlocks a memory: his brother Salim (Madhur Mittal), the girl Latika (Freida Pinto) he lost years ago, the violence that shaped them both. As Jamal climbs toward the final prize, everything he has survived and everyone he loves hangs on whether he can answer one more question.
