Small Country: An African Childhood
“When The Innocence Of Childhood Faces History”
Tensions in neighboring Rwanda spill over in 1993, and the danger reaches Gabriel (Djibril Vancoppenolle), a ten-year-old who has spent his whole life in a comfortable ex-pat neighborhood in Burundi. Until now his days belonged to his friends and his little sister. Éric Barbier adapts Gaël Faye's novel and stays close to Gabriel's eyes, so the danger arrives the way it would to a boy that age, in pieces.
