Small Things Like These

“If you want to get on in life, there’s things you have to ignore so you can keep on.”

The local convent in an Irish town in 1985 keeps secrets, and nobody will name them. Bill Furlong (Cillian Murphy), a coal merchant with a wife and daughters to feed, makes his deliveries in the dark before Christmas and starts to notice what he can't unsee, while Sister Mary (Emily Watson) and the rest of the town carry on as though nothing is there. Tim Mielants keeps Bill mostly quiet, a tired man in a work coat, turning over what it would cost him to speak.
