Smart Money

(1931)Directed by Alfred E. Green81 minCrime, Drama
“Just a small-town barber who became a "big-shot" gambler-riding high and handsome until he went balmy for a blonde!”

Nick Venizelos (Edward G. Robinson), a small-town barber, heads for the city with his friend Jack (James Cagney) to try his luck at gambling, and a run of fateful turns follows from that one trip. Alfred E. Green directs the only film that puts Robinson and Cagney on screen together. Nick stakes everything he has on the tables, and with a woman like Irene Graham (Evalyn Knapp) in his path, he stands to lose far more than money.
