Smashed

Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) teaches elementary school, and at night she and her husband Charlie (Aaron Paul) drink together, laughing over records until the bottles are empty. Her drinking starts to spill into the classroom, and she lies to cover it, even to the principal (Megan Mullally). James Ponsoldt keeps the camera close and the scenes plain, so the film never looks away from a marriage that was built around a drink.
