In San Francisco in the early 1990s, Bishop (Robert Redford) runs a small crew that companies pay to break into their own buildings and computer systems. Phil Alden Robinson sets Bishop, Crease (Sidney Poitier), Whistler (David Strathairn) and Mother (Dan Aykroyd) to work for intelligence agents who want a code-breaking black box taken from a Soviet-funded genius. Bishop looks at the box in his hands, and the team around him goes quiet.
