Snow White's mother dies giving birth on an icy field, and her father John (Tom Irwin) is left with the baby when a stranger calls himself the Granter of Wishes (Clancy Brown) and offers him three. Caroline Thompson brings the old tale to television with Miranda Richardson as Elspeth and Kristin Kreuk as the grown Snow White. Vera Farmiga's Josephine stands among the figures drawn into the story, and the snow lies pale across the opening field.
