Sombre

Jean (Marc Barbé) travels the French countryside behind a puppet show, and he wants a woman he can keep near him. Claire (Elina Löwensohn) has a broken-down car, and he stops. Philippe Grandrieux gives the stranger's kindness and the killer's patience the same unhurried pace, and the film refuses to let the viewer tell them apart, even as the two of them share the road.
