José María (Roberto Álamo) wants what the poor of the year 9177 never get, a way into the Representative Building, where the king and his oligarchs live apart from the slums crowded around its walls. José Luis Cuerda, in what became his last film, builds this ruined Earth as a deadpan comic world. José María stands among the shacks that press against the building's foot, looking up at the place he means to enter.
