Something the Lord Made

“A breakthrough that changed the face of medicine. A unique partnership that broke the rules.”

Vivien Thomas (Yasiin Bey) is a carpenter with no medical degree, yet Dr. Alfred Blalock (Alan Rickman) hires him as his lab assistant and then relies on him for surgery that no one has attempted. Joseph Sargent follows the two men from Nashville to Baltimore, where a white surgeon and a Black technician work side by side without being equals. Thomas stands over the operating table, hands steady, the hospital hall keeping him outside the room.
