Song of the Exile

Cheung Hueyin (Maggie Cheung Man-yuk) is a young woman of Chinese and Japanese blood who finishes her studies in London and goes back to Hong Kong in the early 1970s. Ann Hui, drawing on her own life, puts Hueyin in the same house as her mother Aiko (Lu Hsiao-Fen), and the two begin to quarrel over how each of them sees the world. Hueyin came home to belong somewhere, and she finds she is still a stranger in her own family.
