Songs from the Second Floor

A traffic jam has swallowed a Swedish city, and the people stuck inside it carry on with their lives anyway. Kalle (Lars Nordh), Stefan (Stefan Larsson) and Lennart (Bengt C.W. Carlsson) turn up in one fixed-camera vignette after another, with lines from the poet César Vallejo running underneath. Roy Andersson never connects the scenes with a plot, so what is at stake is the ordinary lives themselves, left standing still in the road.
