Sons and Lovers

“You'll never forget the young lovers in...”

Paul Morel (Dean Stockwell) is the son of a mining family who wants to paint for a living, a hope that sits badly in a house where the men go down the pit. Jack Cardiff directs the drama, in which Paul takes up with Clara Dawes (Mary Ure), an older married woman from the town, while his mother Gertrude (Wendy Hiller) watches with a possessive eye. The love he is offered elsewhere keeps running into the love his mother already holds over him.
