“There is nothing you can name that is anything like...”

Ensign Nellie Forbush (Mitzi Gaynor) is a navy nurse from Little Rock, stationed at a military hospital on a South Pacific island during the war. She falls for Emile De Becque (Rossano Brazzi), a mature French planter she met one enchanted evening. Joshua Logan stages the sailors' and nurses' musical show alongside a war that creeps closer, and Nellie has to decide whether to wash that man out of her hair.
