“Free as a Bird...”

Kei (Simon Yam) leads a small crew of pickpockets in Hong Kong, the kind locals call sparrows, and spends his free hours photographing the city through an old camera. One afternoon Chun-lei (Kelly Lin Hsi-Lei) walks into his viewfinder, and he can't look away from her. Johnnie To stages the crew's work as light, practiced choreography and keeps the whole film loose and unhurried, like a man strolling.
