Why a swamp farm holds a crowd of orphans, and who answers to Mr. Grimes (Gustav von Seyffertitz), is the first thing the film leaves unexplained. Molly (Mary Pickford), the eldest, looks after the younger children, who work as slaves under his rule, and William Beaudine follows her as Grimes decides one of them will be disposed of. She has to get every child out of the swamp, and any one she cannot reach is lost.
