“Get ready for rush hour.”

A bomb on a city bus will detonate if the speed drops below fifty miles per hour. LAPD officer Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves) boards to defuse it, but the device was rigged by Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper), a vengeful ex-cop who wants to watch the chaos unfold. Jack and a passenger named Annie (Sandra Bullock) are trapped in a game where stopping means death for everyone on board.
