“Get ready for rush hour.”

Someone has wired a Los Angeles city bus with a bomb that arms itself once the speed passes fifty miles an hour and goes off if it drops below. LAPD officer Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves) gets aboard, and Annie (Sandra Bullock) ends up behind the wheel while Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper) watches from somewhere else. Jan de Bont keeps the bus moving through city traffic, and every passenger on it dies if the needle slips.
