“There is no such thing as simple love”

On the outskirts of Rotterdam, three friends spend their weekends at the dirt-bike track, hoping speed will carry them out of working-class lives. Rien (Hans van Tongeren) and Hans (Maarten Spanjer) want to race professionally, and Eef (Toon Agterberg) keeps their bikes running, while all three fall for Fientje (Renée Soutendijk). Paul Verhoeven's film treats ambition and desire as two ways of trying to leave a place that has already decided who these people are.
