“She was the woman of Allen's dreams. She had large dark eyes, a beautiful smile and a great pair of fins.”

Allen Bauer (Tom Hanks) runs a produce business with his brother Freddie (John Candy) and has never quite managed to fall in love. Then he meets Madison (Daryl Hannah), a woman with a mysterious past who turns out to be a mermaid, and he falls hard. Ron Howard stages the romance with a crowd-pleasing lightness, and Allen sits at a restaurant table with Madison across from him, utterly lost.
