St. Ives

“He's clean. He's mean. He's the go-between.”

Someone has stolen a batch of papers, and the man who wants them back, Abner Procane (John Houseman), would sooner not go to the police. He hires Raymond St. Ives (Charles Bronson), a former police reporter, to recover them. J. Lee Thompson sends St. Ives through a circle of rich, well-dressed people, including Janet Whistler (Jacqueline Bisset) and Dr. John Constable (Maximilian Schell), where a favor from the wealthy always costs someone else.
