“With neighbors like these, who needs family?”

Vincent MacKenna (Bill Murray) wants to be left alone with his cigarettes, his horse bets and his drink. Then a new family moves in next door, and Oliver (Jaeden Martell), a boy whose parents have just split, ends up in Vincent's care after school for a few dollars an hour. Theodore Melfi builds the film around what a grumpy veteran and a lonely kid teach each other about showing up for someone.
