“Sex, drag and rock & roll”

Maybelline Metcalf (Jacki Weaver) has spent her life in Texas running a church choir and keeping her opinions about her son Ricky to herself. When he dies, she drives to San Francisco to bury him, and finds he left her his drag club. Thom Fitzgerald puts her in a room of performers, including Sienna (Lucy Liu), who knew Ricky far better than she ever let herself.
