Stalker

“There's no need to speak. You must only...concentrate and recall all your past life. When a man thinks of the past, he becomes kinder.”

The Stalker (Aleksandr Kaydanovskiy) lives in a gray, unnamed city and earns his living by leading people into the Zone, a restricted area ringed in barbed wire and watched by soldiers. His two clients, a melancholic Writer (Anatoliy Solonitsyn) and a Professor (Mykola Hrynko), want to reach the room inside where a person's deepest desire is granted. Tarkovsky's expedition is about what each man hopes for and whether he can bear to say it aloud.
