A dancer vanishes from a Chicago theater, and nobody can say where she went. Clay Dalzell (William Powell), an attorney, takes the case, with Donna Mantin (Ginger Rogers) close beside him as the questions pile up. Stephen Roberts sets the trail running through murder and deception, and Dalzell has to follow it before the lie becomes the only story anyone believes.
