The Frakes load up for the Iowa State Fair, where Abel (Will Rogers) means to win a ribbon for his prize hog and his wife has her pickles and mincemeat entered too. Their grown kids come along with other things in mind, and Margy (Janet Gaynor) and Wayne (Norman Foster) each meet someone new among the midway crowds. Henry King's film treats a few days away from the farm as the stretch when a young person's heart first gets pulled out of the house it grew up in.
